Network of photometers in Mogán (Canary Island, Spain)

As part of the Life Natura 2000 project, 10 photometers have been installed on the island of Gran Canaria. The municipality of Mogán is one of the institutions collaborating with the project.

To identify and characterize the zones with the highest pollution index

One of the objectives will be to characterize areas with both low and high levels of light pollution. For this reason, photometers have been installed in various zones, all of them either near or within urban centers.

The replacement of lighting fixtures being carried out in the different areas must be respectful of the environment and comply with the regulations of the ordinance currently under development.

The locations where photometers have been installed are as follows:

  • Cementerio Mogán
  • Depósito Agua Puerto Rico
  • Ayuntamiento Mogán
  • CEIP Veneguera
  • Archivo Municipal Mogán
  • Mirador Puerto de Mogán
  • CS Soria
  • Plaza Barranquillo
  • Centro de Tejeda
  • Salinas de Teneté

With the Next photometers, we will also be able to measure the brightness magnitude associated with colors and identify the type of lighting fixtures in each area.
